Boolean operators

AND, OR and NOT. The following characters have a special meaning in the ACM Digital Library: + - && || ! () {} [] ^ " ~ * ? : /. To instruct the search to interpret one of these characters literally and not as a special character, the character must be preceded by a backslash: ~~. The term ~~web -based, for example, searches for web NOT based. You must therefore either remove the space before ~- or enter web -based to find web-based documents.

* Truncation to replace an unlimited number of characters. ? truncation to replace a single character. Wildcards can be used at the end of a word or within a word, but not at the beginning.

  1. Click on a hit in the hit view.
  2. In the detailed view, click on "References" on the right-hand side or scroll down.
  3. The cited references can be viewed.

Forward citation searching

Citing references are displayed, but cannot be systematically exported.

  1. Click on a hit in the hit view.
  2. In the detailed view, click on the symbol for "Metrics" (square arrow) and click on "Total Citations".
  3. Click on "View all".
  4. The citing references can be viewed.

  1. In the hit list or detailed view, click on the quotation mark symbol for a desired hit.
  2. Select the desired file format and click on "Download Citation" (down arrow).
  3. All further steps depend on the Internet browser and reference management program used.

  1. Check the "Select all" box above the hit view.
  2. Click on the "Export Citations" button that appears next to it.
  3. Select the "All Results" tab, choose the desired export format and click on "Download Citation" (down arrow).
