A literature review is an overview of the literature in which the available evidence (usually the results of studies) on a topic is summarized as completely as possible. The underlying literature search as well as the subsequent literature evaluation are structured. In principle, a methodologically high-quality literature review is more informative than individual studies to answer a research question.
